Position Overview
The financial Business Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's financial performance, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. This role partners closely with leadership and department heads to provide financial insights, ensure cost efficiency, and support informed business decisions. The Business Controller focuses primarily on
internal financial management and performance control
, not external financing or investor relations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Prepare and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Analyze monthly financial results and explain variances versus budget
- Develop and track KPIs to measure operational and financial performance
- Provide profitability analysis by client, department, or service line
Management Reporting
- Produce timely and accurate monthly management reports
- Present financial insights and recommendations to leadership
- Support decision-making through data-driven analysis
Cost Control & Performance Management
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure adherence to approved budgets
- Support pricing, margin, and productivity analysis
Accounting Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities (AP, AR, payroll coordination, GL)
- Ensure accurate month-end and year-end closings
- Review financial statements for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate with external accountants and auditors
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain and improve internal financial controls and procedures
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
- Support audits and documentation requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations, HR, and sales teams on financial matters
- Support leadership with financial modeling and scenario analysis
- Act as a financial advisor to department heads
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required)
- 5+ years of experience in financial control, FP&A, or accounting
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
- Experience with accounting systems and ERPs (e.g., Odoo, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to see the "big picture"
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain financial concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification
- Experience in staffing, professional services, or multi-client environments
- Prior experience in a growing or scaling company
