We are seeking a Senior Director of Animal Care to provide strategic leadership across our zoological operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead zoological operations, ensuring animal welfare, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and quality guest experiences.
• Oversee daily husbandry, nutrition, enrichment, and welfare for marine mammals and other species.
• Approve animal care protocols and enrichment plans; monitor animal health, welfare assessments, and behavioral records.
• Lead marine mammal training using recognized reinforcement methods and support research-based training initiatives.
• Coordinate veterinary care, preventive medicine, quarantine procedures, medical records, and animal health emergency protocols.
• Collaborate with the Life Support System Department on water quality standards.
• Implement international animal welfare standards and certifications.
• Oversee staff development, training, certifications, behavioral goals, and exhibit guidelines. REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Sciences, Marine Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in marine mammal care and training.
• Previous leadership experience in a zoological or marine park setting.
• Experience working with regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies.
• Expertise in animal behavior, husbandry techniques, and enrichment programs.
• Strong leadership, team-building, administrative, and organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to manage complex operations and animal emergencies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. WORKING CONDITIONS Availability on weekends, holidays, and during emergencies is required. Schedules and responsibilities may vary, so flexibility is essential. Work may involve outdoor environments, water exposure, and proximity to large animals. Candidates must be able to swim, run, jump, and lift or move 50 pounds when operational needs require it.
